And then one day, you no longer crossed my mind in frenzied violence or forceful longing. You simply faded away like so many other distant memories. The last remnants of you clung tightly to the recesses of my mind, but eventually evanescenesced and were eclipsed by a steady stream of late summer morning light. You took your place upon my top closet shelf; life’s trappings pushed you to the back to collect dust. I forgave you. I’m forgetting you. You hold no power over me now.
